Elmar Gams, researcher at the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory, delivered a presentation on oral history and the Kogumelugu portal at the 2025 IOHA (International Oral History Association) conference in Krakow. In his talk, Gams focused on presenting personal memories collected in the portal and the multilingual approach, highlighting cooperation practices with memory institutions both in Estonia and abroad. The conference brought together oral history researchers from around the world, providing an opportunity to share experiences and develop international collaboration.
The oral history portal Kogu Me Lugu (kogumelugu.ee) was created in 2013 by the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory. The portal currently hosts around 400 interviews conducted by our team or in cooperation with other institutions in Estonia and abroad. In addition, it features short video stories, documentaries, and educational materials. Kogu Me Lugu is available in three languages (Estonian, English, and Russian) and provides an overview of Estonians’ personal experiences under Soviet and Nazi occupation regimes in the 20th century.
