Documentary „Gori the Caricaturist“ (2023) on November 7 at 6 pm at the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory (Tõnismägi 8, Tallinn)

Gori the Caricaturist is an animated documentary about the popular caricaturist Gori (Vello Agori, 1894–1944), whose fate in Estonia at the beginning of the 20th century shows the balance between power and freedom. There is no subject that Gori’s pen will not mock, allowing for farce and drama, mockery and big politics to intertwine. However, the winds turn and power is concentrated in the hands of dictators, who fear nothing more than its own ridiculousness.

The film is in Estonian with English subtitles. The film is followed by an open discussion, led by the author of the film, Raimo Jõerand, and historian Meelis Maripuu. Snacks and drinks will be offered. Entry is free of charge!
