Estonian Institute of Historical Memory and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tallinn invite you to the screening of a documentary film In the footsteps of Jakub Grossmann (2022) on October 3 at 6 pm at the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory (Tõnismägi 8, Tallinn).

The film tells a story of Milan Grossman, a Czech bus  driver, who follows the forgotten footsteps of his grandfather Jakub. Jewish Jakub Grossmann escaped Nazi-occupied Bohemia to find a way to join the resistance. His quest to Sweden had curious twists and turns, and he also passed through Estonia. After eight years of archival research, Milan sets on the same journey his grandfather took through Europe. In the documentary road movie, two storylines intersect. One follows the escape from the Nazi Protectorate to politically neutral Sweden, which Jakub Grossmann completed in 1939. The other shows the journey of his grandson Milan, during which he visits the same places after 80 years.

The film is in Czech with English subtitles. The duration of the film is 60 minutes.

The film is followed by an open discussion in English, led by the author of the film, Milan Grossman, and Estonian director and screenwriter Ilmar Raag. Snacks and drinks will be offered.

Please register here before October 1.

The film screening is supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tallinn.
